The tram network is the most recent addition to Dubai’s commuting system. Dubai Tram was opened to the public on November 12th, 2014.
Stage I of the project has been completed and includes 11 stations. Trams originating from Al Sufouh Road station, move around Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence and return to Al Sufouh passing by Dubai Media City, the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Pearl and Knowledge Village. Dubai Tram links with the Metro at Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers stations. There is also a connection with the Palm Monorail at Palm Jumeirah station. All interconnections with the Metro/Monorail require a small walk and a lift ride.
Operating hours for Dubai Tram are Saturday to Thursday between 6:30'am and 1:30'am and Friday between 9:00'am and 1:30'am. Trams are running every 10 minutes during peak time and every 12 minutes off-peak. Each tram has 7 cars and includes sections for Gold NOL card holders and women and children. Since tram operates within only one travel zone, passengers pay a flat fee, regardless of the length of their trip.
Plans for extension of the tram network include Stages II and III that, when completed, will bring tram to destinations like Burj Al Arab, Mall of the Emirates, Madinat Jumeirah and up to 2nd of December Street.
