Dubai Opera

August 31st, 2016 was a historic day for the arts in Dubai. A project that was proudly announced 3 years before came to life that night. Dubai Opera opened its doors with a stunning concert performance by none other than the legendary Placido Domingo. HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, an avid patron of the arts, was there during orchestra rehearsals, making sure that everything was perfect before the opening bell.

The dhow shaped Opera House is built in the heart of the Dubai Opera District, a newly created neighbourhood that apart of the Opera will host a number of hotels and residences as well as commercial buildings, parks and a waterfront walk.

Architect Janus Rostock designed a building that can be transformed from theatre to concert hall to flat floor event hall. It has fantastic acoustics and can accommodate up to 2,000 people. For the 2016 – 2017 season the Opera House has programmed to host a series of opera and ballet plays, classical music concerts, musical theatre performances, music concerts by famous Arab and world artists, family shows and other live entertainment shows.
