JUMEIRAH BEACH RESIDENCE (JBR)
JBR is a 2 sq.km. residential community facing the Arabian Gulf waters in Dubai Marina. It consists of six clusters of buildings that go by the names of Murjan, Sadaf, Bahar, Rimal, Amwaj and Shams. Each cluster has six to eight towers and plazas with all sorts of retail stores. The original JBR project, that included a number of 5 star hotels, was completed in 2010. Since then a number of towers has been converted into hotels or hotel apartments.
The Walk at JBR is the 1.7 km road that runs adjacent to the beach, in front of JBR. The Walk is a commercial strip that hosts numerous fashion outlets, retail and department stores intermixed with cafes, restaurants and other food outlets. The Walk is very popular among residents and visitors, especially on Thursday nights and Fridays.
The latest addition to the area is The Beach at JBR by Meraas Holdings. This retail complex consists of four plazas and occupies the beach area between the Hilton and Sheraton hotels. The Beach evolves around 2 long walkways that run parallel to the beach. The one that faces the water is hosting, almost exclusively, fancy restaurants and cafes, while the one in the back sports a large selection of fashion outlets, boutiques and retail stores plus a Reel Cinemas complex.
Meraas Holdings is also the developer of another project that will be an integral part of the JBR area in the near future. Bluewaters Island is an artificial island under construction opposite to The Beach. It will be connected to JBR by a pedestrian bridge and a cable car and to SZR by a highway. Bluewaters Island will be hosting hotels, residential buildings, dining establishments and the Dubai Eye, a Ferris Wheel aspiring to be the largest in the world, upon completion.
THE PALM JUMEIRAH
The Palm Jumeirah is the first large scale offshore project of its kind, created by land reclamation off the Jumeirah coast. The Palm, as its name implies, is a large palm tree shaped man-made island. It consists of a 2 km long trunk, 17 fronds forming a crown and a crescent on the far end. Construction of the project started in June 2001. Palm Jumeirah has several residential buildings and villa clusters plus a number of luxury hotels. Atlantis The Palm was the first hotel to be built, followed by Zabeel Saray, Kempinski, Waldorf Astoria and Anantara, to name a few.
