The Hamdan Sports Complex is one of the biggest multi-sports venue in the world, with emphasis in aquatic sports. The Complex occupies some 60 acres of land along Emirates Road (E611), opposite Global Village. It houses two Olympic-dimension swimming pools, diving pool and a state of the art system that can turn the 50-metres pools into 25-metres ones at various depths. The system also has the ability to completely cover the swimming pools, so that the venue can be used for other non-aquatic sports such as: badminton, basketball, volleyball, handball, tennis and karate or host exhibitions, international conventions and musical concerts. Hamdan Sports Complex takes advantage of the latest developments in environmentally friendly technology. The pools are kept warm by employing an array of solar panels. The same technology is used to power all the outdoor lights in the complex. The complex plays host to international aquatic as well other sport events. Worth mentioning, the 2010 FINA World Swimming Championship, the 2014 FIBA U-17 World Championship and the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U-23 World Championship.
